  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces dark chocolate, chopped
  • Gummy bats for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract; mix well. Slowly add boiling water to the batter.
  4. Pour the batter into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, heat heavy cream in a saucepan until just below boiling, then pour over chopped chocolate. Stir until smooth.
  6. Let the cakes cool, then remove from pans. Drip the chocolate ganache over the top of the cake.
  7. Decorate with gummy bats for a spooky touch.

Notes

  • For extra richness, add a layer of chocolate frosting between the cake layers.
