  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in the boiling water (the batter will be thin) and pour into prepared pans.
  5. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let the cakes cool for 10 minutes before removing from the pans.
  7. For the frosting, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
  8. Layer the chocolate cakes with sliced strawberries and whipped cream.
  9. Top the cake with remaining strawberries and serve.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate cocoa powder.
  • Make sure the cakes are completely cool before frosting.
